JASPER – Jasper Gibson delivered big for Dawson County Thursday night against Pickens County.
The junior guard scored 24 of his 34 points in the second half to lead the Tigers past Pickens 84-69.
It took the Tigers two quarters to shake the new year rust as they trailed 34-30 at the half.
Looking for an answer to the slow-go first half, Gibson stepped into the spotlight. After messing around for 8 points in the third quarter, Gibson fired up 16 points in the final frame.
He also grabbed 7 rebounds, dished out 5 assists and snatched 3 steals.
Of course, Gibson didn’t do all the work alone. Senior guard Luke Chism turned in his 10th double-double performance of the season, splashing in 21 points and ripping down 10 boards. He also robbed the Dragons seven times and passed out 5 assists.
Campbell Reed added 13 points and 5 rebounds, and Ahmad Kamara hit for 9 points and 8 boards in the win.
Dawson County outscored the Dragons 28-19 in the third and 26-16 in the fourth quarter.
The Tigers (14-3, 3-1) will travel to Cherokee Bluff Friday for the first Region 7-3A game of 2019. Game time is set for 8:30 p.m.
