Hall County Sheriff's Office investigators believe a man who was killed in a New Year's Day crash in Talmo might have been driving under the influence.

Sheriff's Office spokesman Derreck Booth said in a press statement Misael Santiago-Ruiz, 25, of Gainesville was pronounced dead at Northeast Georgia Medical Center Tuesday.

A resident in the area of Talmo Road spotted the victim's wrecked pick-up truck on Talmo Road near Fuller Road and called authorities around 7:30 a.m. Investigators think the accident happened around 6 a.m.

Booth said investigators believe Ruiz was traveling about 30 mph in foggy conditions when his vehicle left the road, hit a fence post and a tree.

Ruiz was alone in the vehicle at the time of the accident, according to the sheriff's office.
