Gainesville voters approved a so-called Brunch Bill when they went to the polls on Nov. 6, 2018 and now Gainesville City Council needs to put the change on the books.
Council members meet in their first work session of the calendar year on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019. The first order of business on the agenda is discussion on the amendment for Gainesville's alcohol ordinance. The Brunch Bill vote provides for earlier sales of alcohol-by-the-drink at restaurants on Sundays. The time currently is 12:30 p.m., but a change to the ordinance moves the time of sale to 11 a.m. A final vote on the matter would come at a voting session on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at 5:30 p.m. The planned start date for earlier sales is Feb. 3.
Also on Thursday's work session agenda is a presentation of the Dawsonville Highway/McEver Road Connectivity Study.
The Gainesville City Council work session begins at 9 a.m. in the Board Room of the Administration Building at 300 Henry Ward Way in downtown Gainesville.
