Police have identified a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old who were killed New Year's Eve in what they are calling "a tragic sequence of events."

The boys were identified Tuesday as Chad Carless, 17, and Devin Hodges, 15, both of Lawrenceville.

After interviewing witnesses, investigators said they determined Hodges brought a handgun to a small shed in the neighborhood to show to three other teens. A shot was accidentally fired and hit Carless, who was sitting next to Hodges in the cramped shed.

Carless died from the gunshot wound before help could arrive, according to information released to the media.

As officers were arriving on scene, Hodges was seen running between two homes on Riverlanding Circle, where he then took his own life with the hand gun.

Detectives said they will continue the investigation.
