Piedmont men's soccer gets draw with William Peace

DEMOREST — The Piedmont men's soccer team battled William Peace to a 1-1 double overtime draw on Sunday as both teams sit atop their respective USA South Athletic Conference divisions.
 
The Lions (6-1-1, 5-0-1 USA South) and Pacers (6-1-3, 5-0-1 USA South) are the only schools that remain unbeaten in USA South action as William Peace has sole possession of the East Division and Piedmont sits atop of the West Division as a pair of conference games are on the schedule for this weekend.
 
William Peace had an opportunity early in the first half, but a point-blank save by Blayton Duncan kept the score 0-0.
 
Both team would trade shots throughout the first 43 minutes until the Pacers scored off a Piedmont deflection in the 44th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
 
William Peace went into halftime leading 1-0 and held a 6-5 shot advantage.
 
Both teams once again traded shots to begin the second half until a Pacer foul on a Piedmont corner kick occurred inside the 18 in the 74th minute.
 
Cameron Earls would go onto convert the ensuing penalty kick to tie the game 1-1.
 
The score would remain 1-1 for the final 17 minutes of regulation, forcing overtime for the first time for the Lions this season.
 
William Peace outshot Piedmont 4-3 in the two overtime periods, but neither team could capitalize off their chances.
 
Duncan finished the game with five saves and improves to 1-1-1 on the season.
