Elbert County announces arrests in livestock thefts

Two men have been charged with more than a dozen counts each of livestock theft in Elbert County.

According to information released by the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, an investigation by ECSO along with sheriff’s offices in Franklin County, Hart County and Madison County led to the arrests.

Michael Taylor Maxwell, 24, of Bowman is charged with 15 counts of livestock theft in Elbert County.

Maxwell also faces charges in Franklin County and Hart County.

Eric Michael Moon, 21, of Royston, is charged with 15 counts of livestock theft and felony probation in Elbert County.

Moon also faces charges in Franklin County and Madison County.

No specifics on the type livestock or other circumstances were provided. The investigation continues by the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office and other area agencies.
