Group needs donations to help kids ward off seasonal depression

Posted 3:00PM on Sunday 23rd September 2018 ( 5 years ago )

A newly formed group hopes to offer free Halloween costumes to less fortunate kids in Forsyth County this year.

Forsyth Costumes 4 Kids Coordinator Tiffany Garcia said she started the program after reading an article about seasonal affective disorder in children. "They're finding it's actually starting more towards October," Garcia said. "They have all these fall festivals they can't participate in, many of which are free, but they don't have a costume. So, they can't go to it."

She hopes you can bring your gently used costumes to help kids feel special. Garcia told AccessWDUN when and where you can drop off your donations. "We're taking donations at Good Shepard Catholic Church from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays." She added, "We're at the city park off of Pilgrim Mill Mondays from 3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. and, Fridays from 3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m., we're at Sawnee Mountain Park."

Garcia said other drop off locations and times can be arranged by emailing [email protected]. Donations will be accepted through October 12th.

An event to allow kids to pick out their free costume is planned for October 13th at the Good Shepard Catholic Church at 1:00 p.m.
