A school crossing guard was seriously injured after she was struck by an SUV as she worked in front of North Hall High School.

The Georgia State Patrol said Ashley Laurent Parr, 21, of Gillsville was directing traffic Tuesday afternoon and motioned for cars to move into the crosswalk when Lanier Dudley, 50, of Talmo failed to stop his pickup and collided with a Jeep Compass driven by Dakota Joy, 17, of Clermont.

The Compass spun around and struck Parr, who investigators said was knocked 12 to 15 feet by the impact.

Trooper said Dudley was distracted by a cell phone before he hit the Jeep.

Parr was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with serious injuries.

Hall County School District spokesman Gordon Higgins said Wednesday Parr remained in critical but stable condition.

Charges are pending in the incident.
