After just three years on the job, Scott Freeman has been fired as police chief for Athens-Clarke County.

The Athens Banner Herald reported that it had received confirmation from Athens Mayor Nancy Denson that Freeman was fired Thursday morning by the county manager.

Denson told the newspaper that there had been high turnover at the police department because officers did not like Freeman's leadership style.

“Evidently he wasn’t a good fit for Athens," Denson told the newspaper.

Freeman became chief of the Athens-Clarke County in July 2015 after serving as chief deputy of the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office.
