While there are a number of weather models showing a myriad of scenarios for the impact Hurricane Florence will have on the eastern coast, it's too early to tell what may happen in North Georgia.
AccessWDUN meteorologist John Wetherbee said "lots of uncertainty" is frustrating for those folks on the edge of the storm.
"Major Hurricane Florence is on track for a North Carolina landfall, but the storm will 'lose its direction' approaching landfall and stall," Wetherbee said in an update at 10 a.m. Wednesday. "The lack of steering currents has been a problem for several days trying to understand the direction this major 'rainmaker' will go."
Wetherbee said the latest update from the National Hurricane Center suggests North Georgia may in for locally heavy rainfall over the weekend.
"Not worried about winds or storm surge (with a land falling hurricane), just way-too-much rain. We'll keep you updated," Wetherbee said.
Don Strength, the GEMA/HS Area 1 Field coordinator also issued a statement Wednesday morning, saying more changes to the storm track are likely in the next 48 hours.
"Keep in mind, landfall is not expected before Friday morning," Strength wrote in an email statement. "Any impact on Georgia would most likely be late Saturday into Sunday. We have a long way to go."
For now, the major impact from Florence is expected in the Carolinas and Virginia.
