Softball: East Hall, Branch stay on top in region play; Buford opens 8-5A with win

BLUE RIDGE — Carley Cox had two hits and four RBI to lead East Hall to a 13-4 win over Fannin County Tuesday in Region 7-3A girls softball action.

Cox had a two-RBI single in a six-run fourth and a two-RBI double in a five-run fifth as the Lady Vikings (10-7, 8-1 Region 7-3A) blew open a close 2-1 game at the time for a 13-1 lead. The Lady Rebels (5-9, 3-4) plated three in the bottom of the fifth but could not get closer.

East Hall took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Macy Banks.

Banks also got the win in the circle going five innings allowing four runs on two hits and striking out six.

Amelia Sneed took the loss for Fannin County surrendering eight runs on seven hits over 3 2/3 innings.

The Lady Vikings pounded out 12 hits.

 

FLOWERY BRANCH 17
DENMARK 2

The Lady Falcons (10-9, 8-1 Region 7-4A) remained atop the region standings after routing newcomer Denmark on Tuesday.
Aubrey Bourrie and Kate Stage each had three RBIs to pace the Flowery Branch. Avery Thomas added two RBI on a triple and a double.
 
Alyssa Kimbrell got the win, striking out six in three innings and giving up one run on one hit.
 
Valerie Eder earned the save for Flowery Branch pitching the final two innings and allowing just one unearned run.

 

BUFORD 15
CEDAR SHOALS 0

Buford opened Region 8-5A play in style routing the Lady Jaguars.
 
The Lady Wolves (7-5, 1-0 Region 8-5A) exploded for a 14-run second inning sending 19 batters to the plate and collecting 12 hits in the frame.
 
Senior Ansleigh Hollifield had a career night belting two home runs and driving in five on the night. Junior Anabel Adams had three hits, including a home run, and four RBI while sophomore Abbi Perkins added two hits and two RBI for Buford.
 
Junior Kaitlyn Pickens got her first win of the season pitching two scoreless innings and striking out five of the six batters she faced. Junior Amelia Veal pitched the final inning allowing no hits and fanning one.
 
 
NORTH HALL 6
GREATER ATLANTA CHRISTIAN 0
 
 
The Lady Trojans (9-7, 6-2 Region 7-3A) scored twice in the first and four more in the fourth to take a shutout win over the Lady Spartans at home. It was North Hall's fourth straight win to hang onto third place in the region standings and keep pace with Lumpkin County for second place.

In other action, Lumpkin County (13-3, 5-1 Region 7-3A) knocked off Dawson County, 7-4, to stay in second place just percentage points ahead of North Hall.

 

CHESTATEE 13
WEST HALL 6

Chestatee got its first Region 7-4A win of the season using a 10-run sixth inning to rally past the Lady Spartans.

The Lady War Eagles (4-10, 1-6 Region 7-4A) trailed West Hall (3-10, 1-8 Region 7-4A) 6-3 after the fourth inning.

Elizabeth Eddins and Isabel Long had huge games combining for six hits and seven RBI to lead Chestatee.

Eddins also got the win surrendering two runs on two hits over four innings while striking out eight in relief.
