Oakwood City Council approved a rezoning request for just over two acres of cottages near the University of North Georgia - Gainesville, aimed at the student population.

The "North Georgia College Cottages" were proposed by Bill Stark Properties, Inc. and would be located at 2988 Frontage Road. The 18 cottages would feature three bedrooms each and would be leased. One company would own and manage all of the cottages on the property.

"It'll have three bedrooms, each one will have its own walk in closet and bath, and each student will have their own privacy. They'll be able to use the living room and kitchen area as a shared resource," said Stan Brown, city manager. "We think this is going to meet a need there, it's close to campus over on Thurmond Tanner Parkway and Frontage Road and it'll be walking distance to the campus."

One person spoke in opposition of the development, concerned about its location. The council voted unanimously to approve the rezoning request.
