Rain postpones Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis to Monday

Posted 2:34PM on Sunday 9th September 2018 ( 6 years ago )

For the third straight day, wet weather has put the kibosh on NASCAR at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Persistent precipitation has led NASCAR and Indianapolis Motor Speedway officials to postpone Sunday’s Brickyard 400 for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series to Monday afternoon.

Despite moving the start time for Sunday’s final race of the Cup Series regular season back an hour to 1 pm, the rains moved in over Speedway, Indiana during the morning hours.  That rain intensified just after noon, and as the day moved forward, NASCAR officials found they had lost the race track to the rain.

This comes on the heels of a rainout on Saturday, which pushed the NASCAR Xfinity Series race to Monday morning.

With the forecast looking much better on Monday, NASCAR will now run a doubleheader for the Xfinity and Cup Series.  The Xfinity Series Lilly Diabetes 250, which will now be run on Monday morning beginning at 10 am.  The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Brickyard 400 will follow at 2 pm.

WDUN will have live coverage of both events on 102.9 FM, with the Xfinty race at 10 am, followed by coverage of the Brickyard 400 starting at 1:30 pm.
