DACULA — The Gainesville girls volleyball team opened Region 8-6A play Tuesday with a split against habersham Central and Lanier.
The Lady Red Elephants (5-8, 1-1 Region 8-6A) lost 2-1 to Habersham Central (19-25, 25-14, 25-16) but rebounded with a 2-1 win over Lanier (22-25, 25-14, 25-21) rallying froma set down.
Ansley Turner led the way for Gainesville with 18 kills, 23 assists, and 18 digs. Isabella Appling added 4 aces and 25 digs, Camille Holcomb contributed 2 aces, 20 assists, and 17 digs, and Olivia Gettys had 11 kills for the Lady Red Elephants.
Emily Sloan had 7 kills, Camille Calkins had 9 kills and 2 blocks, and Karla Grace Langford and Lauren Ware each had 14 digs for Gainesville.
The Lady Red Elephants will play host a trimatch with Lakeview Academy and North Hall on Thursday.
