CORNELIA — A familiar face will lead the Habersham Chamber of Commerce beginning mid-October.
Mary Beth Horton, downtown economic development director for the City of Clarkesville, has been approved and will begin work as the new president of the Habersham Chamber of Commerce effective Oct. 15.
In making the announcement, Habersham Chamber of Commerce Chairman of the Board Philip Smith said, “Mary Beth Horton possesses the skillset and experience which make her a strong match for the role of chamber president. We look forward to watching the chamber continue to grow and thrive under her leadership.”
In her current role, Horton has been the program manager for Clarkesville Main Street and has been responsible for coordinating activities in the areas of small business development and tourism. She was instrumental in the rebuilding of downtown after a catastrophic fire destroyed the east side of the Clarkesville Square.
Tourism and economic development both are focus areas for the Habersham Chamber of Commerce.
Prior to joining the City of Clarkesville in 2010, Horton worked as marketing director for Nantahala Bank & Trust Company for about four years.
She is a graduate of The University of Georgia with a bachelor of arts degree in public relations/advertising.
Currently, Dr. Judy Forbes is serving as interim president of the chamber.
