Buford School District puts Superintendent on administrative leave

Posted 4:43PM on Wednesday 22nd August 2018 ( 6 years ago )

Buford City School District officials say the Superintendent will remain on administrative leave for now.

Attorney Gregory D. Jay represents the board and said Geye Hamby was placed on administrative leave Tuesday, August 21, 2018.

He says the school board plans to hold a special called meeting soon and they expect further action to be taken.

In the meantime, Jay says the District will "continue to focus on the mission of empowering students to reach their full potential".

These actions come on the heels of accusations by a former school employee who filed a lawsuit against the district claiming she was terminated because of her race and her outspoken desire to show support for the black community.

Audio recordings of what prosecutors say is the voice of Hamby using racial slurs are included as evidence in the claim. Hamby's attorneys dispute the validity of the recordings.
