CLEVELAND — The Enotah Judicial Circuit has a new superior court judge and she is from White County.
Joy Parks was sworn into office by Gov. Nathan Deal at the State Capitol Tuesday morning.
Parks said it is a wonderful opportunity.
“It was amazing the number and caliber of the local officials that showed up down there,” Parks said. “It just shows the importance and significance of this position and just getting to meet with Gov. Deal and the confidence that he has instilled by appointing me to this position.”
Parks is the first female superior court judge from White County to serve, and only the second person from the county to serve in that position. Judge Raymond George was appointed to the judgeship in 2012.
Several county officials and others were present for Tuesday’s swearing-in ceremony.
Parks is replacing Superior Court Judge Murphy Miller, who resigned July 1, and she will be taking over Miller’s court calendar and serving immediately.
According to Parks she is in court in Union County today, Lumpkin County on Thursday and will be hearing cases in White County on Friday this week.
Parks has served as chief magistrate judge in White County for several years and now with her new position a replacement for her in magistrate court will be named.
The superior court judges in the Enotah Judicial Circuit will meet and appoint a new chief magistrate for White County.
