Officials blame the storms that hit Tuesday afternoon for causing an apartment fire in Duluth.
Gwinnett County Fire Services Capt. Tommy Rutledge said lightning struck a building at The Chelsea 88 Apartments just before 4 p.m.
"There is heavy damage to two apartments in the center of the building," Rutledge said. "But there is also heavy water damage to several adjoining units."
He added the damage displaced some of the residents.
"All total there are 21 people displaced in the building," Rutledge added. "They are being assisted by the apartment management and the American Red Cross."
Rutledge said no one was injured in the fire and during primary and secondary searches, crews determined initial reports of a person trapped inside one of the buildings was false. Firefighters also rescued a dog from one of the damaged apartments.
