In an interview on WDUN's Morning Talk, former GOP gubernatorial candidate Clay Tippins defended his recording of private conversation he had with Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle, the front runner in the race at the time.

Tippins said he had conversations with both Casey Cagle and Brian Kemp following his primary loss in May, since both candidates called him asking for his endorsement.

Tippins recorded the hour-long meeting he had with Cagle, and he said he released a portion of the recording because he felt Georgians had a right to know the Lt. Gov. had pushed forward bad legislation for political gain.

"It's unconventional, but it's what it takes to bring transparency and try to reform what's a really broken system," Tippins said.

Tippins also made available to Cagle challenger Brian Kemp another snippet of the recording where Cagle appears to criticize Georgia's GOP voters. Cagle's campaign has said the Lt. Gov. was not talking about voters, but about his GOP challengers.

In the WDUN interview, Tippins indicated he will release more of the audio in the future.

Tippins said he did not record the private conversation he had with Kemp following the primary.
