Town homes, veterinary clinic get first reading approval from Oakwood City Council

No one spoke for or against a town home development on Old Oakwood Road and a veterinary clinic on Winder Highway at last night's Oakwood City Council meeting.

Council members gave first reading approval to both developments at the Monday night meeting.

The town home development would be located at 3950 Oakwood Road on a 7.29 acre parcel, where an existing apartment building already exists.

"What we have there is an old, almost like a chicken house, that's been converted into a few apartments. That would be demolished and the new development would go in," said Brown. 'It would be an upgrade of what's already there."

The town homes in the request by MB Endeavors LLC would be similar in style to other town home neighborhoods, including Crawford Oaks on McEver Road; there would be one, two and three bedroom homes with the minimum size at 1,600 square feet. The homes would also have one and two car garages. The development is also in an overlay district ,so no plastic or vinyl siding will be used.

The developer was asking for the parcel to be rezoned from Agricultural to Planned Residential Development. Brown said the adjacent property was already zoned as such, and the request was consistent with the area.

Chestnut Mountain Animal Hospital also turned to the council Monday, asking to rezone a 3.63 acre parcel of land at 3776 Winder Highway from Single Family Residential to Highway Business for a new veterinary clinic.

"We know that that corridor is transitioning to commercial, so it was a very logical request," said Brown.

The clinic would use the existing building on the property and convert it to suit their needs.
