HELEN — It will be a while longer before officials can say for certain what claimed the life of an Alabama man in Helen late last week.
Gary Phillip Freeman Jr., 42, of Troy, Ala., was discovered submerged in the Chattahoochee River near Brucken Strasse just before 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 29, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has said.
An autopsy was conducted by a GBI medical examiner at the state crime lab in Decatur over the weekend.
“Preliminary autopsy results indicate drowning; however, additional testing is required for a final ruling,” GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles told AccessWDUN by email Monday.
The death remains under investigation by Helen Police Department, with assistance and information release by GBI.
