Work to repair an embankment on State Route 60 in the Dahlonega area will begin Monday, June 25th at 8:00 a.m.

In a press statement, the Georgia Department of Transportation said the repair will restore structural integrity to the slope that supports State Route 60 near Dockery Lake Road. Recent flooding caused the embankment to wash out.

A geotechnical design contractor, Hayward Baker Incorporated, which is based out of Forsyth County, will build a retaining wall to stabilize the slope.

By using temporary traffic signals to be installed in the next few days, the highway will remain open to traffic, but will be reduced to one lane.

Drivers have already been seeing "signal ahead" signs along State Route 60 since Friday, June 15th. This project will continue for the next three months but will be a permanent solution to restore the integrity of the slope, according to GDOT.
