BALDWIN — A man well-known in the Habersham County public safety community will be remembered Wednesday.

Former Alto Police Chief Allen Kidd, 53, of Toccoa died Sunday, June 10, 2018, following a brief illness.

A native of Gainesville, “AK”, as he was known to those around him, served as a police officer with the cities of Demorest and Alto, and at North Georgia Technical College. He previously had served as a police officer with Piedmont College and the City of Baldwin. He also had served as firefighter with Habersham County Fire Department.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Gainesville.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today, June 12; and from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour Wednesday.

The Alto Town Council has canceled its meeting that normally would be held tonight, June 12.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the AK Memorial Fund at any South State Bank location.

Because of declining health in recent years, AK had been unable to do the job he did selflessly for many years. Because he had no insurance, his fellow public safety personnel have established a fundraiser to help with funeral expenses.

AK’s friends at Demorest Police Department have established the AK Memorial Fishing Tournament, set for June 30 at Tugaloo State Park on Lake Hartwell.

Complete funeral notice appears on the Obituaries page.
