The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has charged a detention officer after his alleged inappropriate actions against a Rabun County inmate.

On Tuesday, June 5, the GBI was requested by the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office to investigate Jason Michael Fair, 34, of Lakemont, according to the GBI.

From that investigation, Fair was arrested by GBI agents today (June 8) and is charged with battery, violation of oath of office, and false statements and writings, according to GBI Region 8 Special Agent in Charge Kimberly Williams.

Fair was booked in at the Rabun County Detention Center and is being held elsewhere on a $23,000 bond, detention center records show.

As a result of an internal review of Fair’s actions, his employment with the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office was terminated Wednesday, June 6.

The case will be provided to Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney George Christian’s office for prosecution.
