Fatal Madison County house fire ruled accidental

A house fire Monday night claimed the life of a Madison County woman.

That fire, at 528 Jack Sharp Road in Colbert, has been ruled accidental by an investigator with the Georgia Safety Fire Commissioner’s Office

Patricia Hudson, 61, who was home alone at the time of the fire, died in the 9:09 p.m. fire, according to Hudgens’ office.

"My investigator has determined that the cause of the fire was the result of unattended cooking on a stove," Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens said in a statement. "The home was destroyed by the blaze."

Hudgens’ Fire Investigation Unit was assisted by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

In 2018, fire has claimed the lives of 46 Georgians.
