Twisted Cyclone opens at Six Flags Over Georgia

Posted 9:04AM on Sunday 27th May 2018 ( 6 years ago )

Six Flags Over Georgia has unveiled a new roller coaster for the Memorial Day Holiday weekend.

The Twisted Cyclone is a hybrid steel and wooden coaster that replaces the Georgia Cyclone. Park spokeswoman Divina Mims said the coaster is 2,600' long, 100' high and reaches speeds of up to 50 mph.

Mims added there are three inversions that will take riders upside down and 10 moments along the track where you will actually be lifted out of your seat.

"We call that 'getting air'," Mims said.

Conner O'Neil of Marietta got a preview ride as a season ticket holder.

"I loved it," he said. "Every second of it."

The coaster replaces the Georgia Cyclone, which was mostly torn down last yea, although part of the wooden structure was used as the base for the new roller coaster. Both coasters are based on "The Cyclone," an historic coaster at New York's Coney Island.
