Posted 11:00AM on Saturday 19th May 2018 ( 5 years ago )

Gwinnett and Barrow counties will share the costs of replacing the Harbins Road bridge across the Apalachee River, where the counties meet.

According to an intergovernmental agreement approved this week by Gwinnett County commissioners, Gwinnett would cover 25-percent of the right-of-way acquisition costs, totaling $52,250.

Gwinnett's portion of the project is funded by the 2014 SPLOST program.

Barrow County will also be responsible for 25-percent of the right-of-way acquisition, with the Georgia Department of Transportation picking up the rest of the tab.

"The total project cost is estimated at just over $2 million," said Alan Chapman, Gwinnett County transportation director, during the commission work session on Tuesday.

Gwinnett and Barrow are only responsible for the right-of-way payments. Everything else will be covered by GDOT, said Chapman.
