The Georgia Department of Transportation is proposing a new design for a Dawson County intersection and it will host an open house to let the public get a first look at the concept.
The intersection of Dawson Forest Road and State Route 9 currently features three crossings along each roads, with a connector road on either side of where the two roads meet, essentially creating five individual intersections. The new plans propose a pair of single-lane roundabouts to replace those connector roads.
The open house will be held on Tuesday, May 15 at nearby Riverview Elementary School from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00. The DOT says they will have layouts of the new design available for viewing and officials will be available for questions on the project.
The DOT announced the open house in a press release sent Thursday.
"The purpose of the proposed project is to enhance traffic operations and reduce crash frequency," the release said.
The intersection is close to both Riverview Elementary and Dawson County Middle School as well as a Dawson County EMS station.
