Crash investigators with the Gainesville Police Department will close a portion of Atlanta Highway on Sunday, May 6 as they continue to investigate a fatal hit-and-run accident.
"The public should expect intermittent road closures on Atlanta Highway from Memorial Park to Industrial Boulevard from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.," said Sgt. Kevin Holbrook in a press statement.
As investigators map and reconstruct the crash, they ask that drivers avoid the area and find alternate travel routes.
On April 22, Edwin Velasquez, 25, was struck and killed as he walked along the roadway in the area of the Beaulieu of America plant. Cesar Daniel Villalobos, 26, is charged in connection with the death.
