The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate the in-custody death of a Gilmer County man who was arrested earlier this week for allegedly killing his ex-wife.

Charles Michael Patrick, 72, was apparently found hanging in an isolation cell around 10 p.m. Friday, and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was processed into the Gilmer County Detention Center just one day earlier after being arrested on murder charges related to the disappearance and death of his former wife, Drusilla Patrick.

Special Agent in Charge Kimberly Williams said via a press release that the GBI was contacted by the Gilmer County Sheriff's Office to assist with the investigation into Mr. Patrick's death, adding that an autopsy has been scheduled for Monday at their medical examiner's office in Decatur.
