Seven of northeast Georgia's prep soccer teams have already booked their spots in the second round of the state tournament, and 17 more will look to join them on Friday in completing the first round of the postseason.
The Gainesville and Johnson boys and the Flowery Branch, Buford, Johnson, Dawson County and Towns County girls were each victorious in the round of 32 and are getting set for next week's "Sweet 16."
Meanwhile, 10 area boys teams -- Jefferson, Chestatee, West Hall, East Hall, Dawson County, Jackson County, Lumpkin County, East Jackson, Rabun County and Riverside Military -- will get their playoffs under way tonight, along with seven girls teams -- Jefferson, White County, North Hall, Jackson County, Lumpkin County, Rabun County and Lakeview Academy.
A handful of area teams will even advance at the expense of another, as the third-ranked Chestatee boys (15-2) play host to Jefferson (11-4-1) at 6:30 p.m. in a Class 4A showdown Gainesville, while the Dawson County boys (5-7-1) travel to Jackson County (6-10) for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff in Class 3A. They will play just after the North Hall girls (8-7-1) and 10th-ranked Jackson County girls (13-4) do battle at 5:30 p.m. in a game that was postponed due to Thursday's inclement weather.
