The Walton County Sheriff's Office said Friday murder suspect Jerome Mobley is at Grady Hospital in Atlanta after suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Mobley, accused of murdering his wife earlier in the week, was found in a field behind a house on Hestertown Road in Monroe, according to information on the Walton County Sheriff's Office Facebook page.
The owners of the house spotted Mobley and called 911, according to the television station.
Sheriff Joe Chapman said Mobley shot himself in the face with a 12-gauge shotgun. The homeowner waited with the suspect until authorities arrived on the scene.
Mobley was airlifted to Grady Hospital and is expected to survive his injuries.
Mobley's wife was shot to death in the couple's Social Circle home Wednesday morning. Mobley had been considered a fugitive since.
