GAINESVILLE — Brenda Hill-Gilmore is stepping down as the Gainesville girls basketball coach.

Hill-Gilmore officially resigned her position Friday to take over the Monroe Area program beginning next season. She spent seven seasons as coach of the Lady Red Elephants.

Gainesville Athletic Director Adam Lindsey said they are just now starting the search process.

"We will immediately begin the process of looking for a new head girls basketball coach," Lindsey said. "Coach Hill has left some big shoes to fill and I know there will be a lot of interest in this position. But we are excited for Coach Hill in the next endeavors in her career."

Gainesville advanced to back-to-back quarterfinals appearances in 2015 and 2016 under Hill-Gilmore. Gainesville lost in the first round in 2017 after a 17-10 season. The Lady Red Elephants dropped to 8-18 this past season but made the Class 6A playoffs before falling to eventual state semifinalist Northview in the first round.
