*Amin Abraham-Quiles, a senior arts administration major at Piedmont College, will perform “Life of the Afro Kid,” a six-song, self-authored album 4 p.m., April 28 in the screening room of the Swanson Center for the Performing Arts.

*Academy of Innovation invites the public to come and see the spring production of “Big Bad” by Alec Strum at Westminster Presbyterian Church fellowship hall in Gainesville Thursday, April 26, at 2:00 pm. This production is described in a press release from the school as "truly unique" because students at AOI are "anything but typical."  They have diagnoses of anxiety, ADHD, dyslexia, seizure disorders, Autism.

*The Braselton Library will celebrate the 99th anniversary of Children’s Book Week April 30-May 6 with the annual Children’s and Teen Choice Book awards.  Additionally, two special events are set for children ages 2-5: free storytimes Wednesday, May 2 at 10:00 and Friday, May 4 at 11:30.  706.654-1992 for additional information.       

*Maleah Stewart, speech-language pathologist, North Forsyth Middle School, is one of ten finalists for Georgia Teacher of the Year.   The winner will be announced May 19.

*The Gainesville Police Department's 3rd annual Junior Police Academy will be held June 25-29. The registration deadline is June 11.  Registration forms are available online at www.gainesville.org/junior-police-academy, in the front lobby of the police department or by calling Sergeant Chris Jones at (678)-776-6408.

*Jim Sievers ’63, a member of the Piedmont College Board of Trustees and longtime amateur golf advocate, was awarded the college’s Distinguished Alumni Award recently during Piedmont’s Alumni Weekend.  Others receiving awards include Edward Ariail ’80, (Alumni Service), Spencer Wright ’98, (Excellence in Education) and Natalie Crawford ’0 (Pacesetter).

*Hall County School District winners in the Pioneer RESA Young Georgia Authors Writing Competition are Annalise Williams of Mt. Vernon Elementary School, Jake Easton of North Hall Middle School, and Jocelyn Meza of Di Vinci Academy.  Each will now move on to the state-level competition for the final round of judging. 

*Forsyth County is seeking citizen feedback, through an online survey, on preferred residential design standards for the single-family Res2, Res3, and Res4 zoning districts.  The survey is available to county residents on the Forsyth County website at forsythco.com until 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2.
