The Georgia State Patrol said speed and alcohol were factors in a crash that injured a Lumpkin County Sheriff's Deputy and another person Sunday in White County.
Jarren Rece Clark, 18, is facing charges in the accident on SR 115 near Ed Lewis Road. Neither the deputy or the other driver face charges.
According to a press release from the State Patrol, Clark over-corrected his steering when he traveled onto the shoulder of SR 115 just after 7:30 a.m. His Toyota Tocoma traveled across the centerline and struck a Honda Odyssey, which was traveling east on the wet roadway.
The Honda Odyssey hit a mailbox and traveled through a yard, coming to rest in a ditch. A Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office Dodge Charger, driven by Deputy Donald Steve Lewis, struck the Toyota Tacoma in the right side. That caused the Toyota to go off the shoulder and down an embankment, while the patrol car rotated clockwise.
The driver of the Honda was identified as Theresa McCain, 60, of Ball Ground. McCain, Clark and Deputy Lewis were all transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Troopers said all three were wearing their seat belts.
