Tennis: Gainesville boys and girls sweep up region crowns

GAINESVILLE — Gainesville tennis swept its way to the Region 8-6A tournament crowns on Wedensday at Longwood Park in Gainesville.

The Red Elephants defeated Winder-Barrow 3-1 in the championship match, while the Lady Red Elephants took out Lanier 3-1 in the title tilt.

Winning for the Gainesville boys were Dylan Pineda, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 2 singles, while sweeping the doubles points.

The No. 1 team of Max Wuest and Caleb Anderson won 6-1, 6-3, while the No. 2 team of Joseph Diaz and Michael Head prevailed 7-5, 6-3 to clinch the match for Gainesville.

The Red Elephants will play Centennial from Region 7-6A next week at Longwood Park.

The Gainesville girls also enter state tournament play as a No. 1 seed next week after defeating the Lady Longhorns in Gainesville.
