The Georgia State Patrol has released details of Tuesday night’s wreck that claimed the lives of two Michigan residents at Banks Crossing.

A 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by a 73-year-old Commerce woman was traveling southbound on Ga. 15/U.S. 441 in the right lane approaching the intersection of Dallas Drive.

“The male and female pedestrian proceeded to walk westbound across Ga. 15 and entered into the right southbound lane of Ga. 15, at which time the front of [the Chevrolet Cobalt] struck both pedestrians,” according to information provided by Sgt. 1st Class Anthony Coleman at GSP Post 6 in Gainesville. The car came to a stop in the right turning lane of Ga. 15 near Dallas Drive.

James Page, 85, of Wyoming, Mich., was pronounced dead at the scene, according to GSP.

A medical helicopter was called for Francis Page, 78, of Wyoming, Mich, who succumbed to her injuries after being transported from the scene.

No charges will be filed, according to Coleman.

The wreck occurred across from Sonny’s BBQ and the lower driveway access to Walmart. Streetlights on the sidewalks in that area along Ga. 15/U.S. 441 were not on at the time of the incident that was reported about 8:30 p.m.
