Thanks to an alert 8-year-old Hall County boy, a resident of a Broome Road home was able to escape a fire Saturday afternoon.
Hall County Fire Services Capt. Zachary Brackett said Logen Carter, a third grade student at White Sulphur Elementary School, saw smoke coming from the mobile home and went to investigate. When he realized the neighbor's home was on fire, Logen ran to get his father.
"Whenever our personnel responded and got on scene, they did find a gentleman and his son putting water on the fire with a water hose and [they] kept it under control," Brackett said.
The occupant of the mobile home was taking a nap, according to Brackett, and was awakened when he heard the water being sprayed on the mobile home. Brackett said he was able to escape without injury.
Brackett had words of praise for Logen's quick actions.
"The fact that he was so observant and realized that there was a problem and let someone know...is really amazing," Brackett said. "We're very proud of him."
Brackett said investigators determined the fire was electrical in nature. He said there was very little damage to the structure, but because the home needed further inspection, the occupant was displaced.
The fire broke out around 12:20 p.m., according to Brackett.
