GAINESVILLE — The top-ranked Chestatee boys soccer team created plenty of chances but could not find a way past third-ranked Marist on Tuesday in a key showdown in Gainesville.
The War Eagles suffered their first loss of the season, 1-0 on home turf, as Marist took over the top spot in the Region 8-4A title race.
Chestatee goalkeeper Steven Martinez did his best to keep Marist at bay, producing 13 saves. Marist scored in the first half.
Meanwhile, the home-standing War Eagles (11-1, 1-1 Region 8-4A) produced nine shots on the Marist goal to no avail.
The visiting War Eagles (9-1-1, 3-0) will take on Blessed Trinity on Friday, where a win would clinch the region crown. Having already defeated Blessed Trinity, Chestatee will play again on March 27 against White County in Cleveland.
