Police and emergency crews closed Green Street in Gainesville for more than two hours late Monday night while they worked a fatal traffic accident.
"At this time the passenger vehicle, for unknown reasons, crossed the center line and hit a minivan taxi head-on," said Gainesville Police Sgt. Kevin Holbrook.
Holbrook said the adult driver of the passenger car, identified Tuesday afternoon as Lisa Jane Ferrell, 62, of Gainesville, was trapped in the vehicle following the head-on collision.
"They were able to extricate that individual. That individual was transported to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center where unfortunately that individual succumbed to their injuries," Holbrook said.
The crash happened about 9:30 p.m. near Green Street Place as severe weather moved through the area.
"The crash investigators were hindered by that," Holbook added.
