Barrow County fire investigators continue to investigate the cause of an early morning blaze in the Winder area Saturday morning.
Captain Scott Dakin said crews responded to a barn that had been converted into an apartment in the 900 block of Hancock Bridge Road at 5:30 a.m.
"With the amount of fire showing from this structure, firefighters had to fight the fire from a defensive position outside the building," Captain Scott Dakin said. "The first arriving crew met with the resident and was told that everyone was out of the home safely."
Dakin said even though part of the floor of the dwelling collapsed, neither of the two residents sustained injuries.
For several hours, fire fighters from stations 3, 6, and 7 remained on the scene to put out hot spots in the interior of the home.
