ATLANTA (AP) A Georgia lawmaker is denying allegations of sexual harassment in a complaint against him filed with the Senate Ethics Committee.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Friday it obtained a copy of the complaint a lobbyist brought against Republican state Sen. David Shafer of Duluth, accusing him of unwanted sexual advances over a period of years.

Shafer responded with a statement saying: "This false complaint is about politics, not the truth.'' Shafer formally qualified this week to run for lieutenant governor.

The lobbyist did not immediately return a phone message from the Associated Press. The AP does not name potential victims of sexual misconduct.

Harassment complaints against lawmakers filed with the Ethics Committee are not public records. Deputy Senate Secretary Sean Martin said he couldn't comment on whether a complaint was filed.
