HOSCHTON — A proposed Hoschton neighborhood project, abandoned during the Great Recession, now has another chance at becoming reality nearly a decade later.
Brighton Park, the 69-acre, 175-lot project along Maddox Road, is under new management, Chafin Realties, but before any homes can be built, developers must get the plat back in working order, according to April Plank, city manager.
Hoschton City Council members approved the new plans, with conditions, at their meeting Wednesday morning.
"The certain conditions are basically going to be finalized by the engineer, the zoning administrator and the city attorney. They're going to be approving the necessary bonds that the city is requiring for that plat to be approved," said Plank.
The bonds would be used for the roads on the property, which have deteriorated with age.
"It sat there for quite a while. The roads are kind of messed up. The curbs are kind of messed up. To be able to approve the plat to start building homes there, we've got to make sure the city is protected from any potential issues, especially with the codes," said Plank.
According to Chafin's website, the homes will be priced in the low 200's once built.
