D. Higgins of Cornelia is announcing his candidacy for office of the Habersham County Board of Commissioners, District 2, previously filled by Andrea Harper who is not running for re-election.
Higgins, a lifelong resident of Cornelia, has a passion for assisting the development, growth and overall quality of life for families living in Habersham County, according to information released by his campaign. Higgins works with his father, Don Higgins, as project manager at Higgins Construction and currently serves on the Habersham Planning Commission.
Higgins has volunteered with several community organizations including the Northeast Georgia Housing Authority, the Habersham County Library Board and Habersham Rotary. He also is a Habersham Chamber of Commerce Leadership Habersham graduate.
Higgins is a 1997 graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology with a bachelor's degree in building construction, and a 1992 graduate of Habersham Central High School. Higgins and his wife Sarah have two children, Aubrey, 13, and Mallory, 10, and they attend Level Grove Baptist Church in Cornelia.
