Hall County Sheriff's Office investigators have charged a Gainesville man with murder after his girlfriend was found stabbed to death at a residence on Miller Lake Road in East Hall County Saturday night.

According to Sheriff's Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks, the incident unfolded around 6 p.m. on Feb. 17 when a neighbor called 911 to say the suspect, 49-year-old Wendall Gregory Armour, was behaving abnormally. Armour had apparently walked to the neighbor's house.

"The caller didn't know if he [Armour] was under the influence of foreign substances or if it was psychologically-related or what, so out of an abundance of caution, they dialed 911 so that an ambulance could come out and check him out," Wilbanks said.

Armour was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for observation, according to Wilbanks. He said said there was no indication at that point that any kind of criminal activity had occurred.

However, the neighbors became concerned about other people at Armour's home and went to the house to check.

"When they did, they discovered the body of the subject's girlfriend, who had apparently been killed by stab wounds," Wilbanks said.

The neighbors called 911 again, and deputies returned to the scene. They identified the victim as 42-year-old Jodi Lane Gerrell.

Armour was initially under guard at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.  He was booked into the Hall County Jail Sunday afternoon on a murder charge.
