A special use that would allow for changes to a planned expansion of a Gainesville subdivision was recommended by the city planning and appeals board Tuesday.
An unused 85 acre tract on the south side of the Heritage Point neighborhood on Gaines Mill Road was originally planned to be developed for 97 attached townhomes, but the developers are now requesting to instead build 100 single family detached homes. Alise Hoffman spoke on behalf of the developers, Geosam Capital US, LP.
"We're just trying to make it cohesive throughout the neighborhood. All three of the other phases have single family homes, and this one little section was the only one with townhomes," Hoffman said after the meeting.
The subdivision already features over 150 single family homes with more than 15 more currently under construction.
The request for the use will face a final vote from the Gainesville City Council at its meeting on March 6. The planning and appeals board voted unanimously to recommend approval.
