ATHENS – The opioid-addiction crisis that has infected and affected much of the United States has reached a tipping point in Athens-Clarke County.
According to the Athens-Banner Herald the county filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court’s Middle District of Georgia on Wednesday, joining a growing number of hospital and government entities in a multi-state federal lawsuit against companies that produce and market opioid-based pharmaceuticals.
The Banner Herald reports that more than twenty defendants were named in the 176-page complaint.
