CARNESVILLE — More than a year after he allegedly shot two Lavonia police officers, the trial for DeKhari Anthony Gordon of Greenville, S.C., is scheduled to begin today with jury selection.
Potential jurors have been summoned to report to the Franklin County Courthouse at 1:30 p.m. today, with additional jurors scheduled to report on Feb. 7.
If needed, a third group of jurors also would report on Feb. 12.
Gordon is facing multiple charges related to the shooting and subsequent manhunt, including four counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer, four counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, two counts of aggravated battery, theft by bringing stolen property into the state and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Gordon is accused of shooting Lavonia Police Capt. Michael Schulman and Officer Jeffery Martin during a traffic stop at Zaxby's on Ga. 17 on Dec.12, 2016.
At the time of the shooting, Gordon had been released on bond on attempted murder charges in South Carolina.
