Girls basketball: Henricks, Deetz lead Rabun County to win in N.C. tourney; LCA knocks off Johnson; Dawson, Banks, Lumpkin advance to title games

FRANKLIN, (N.C.) — The Rabun County girls held off Smoky Mountain (N.C.) 71-63 Friday at the Franklin (N.C.) Tournament.

Brooke Henricks had another big for Rabun County will 23 points and 9 rebounds. Destiny Deetz had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Lady Wildcats.

Georgia Stockton added 15 points and 5 assists and Sophie Woodard had 12 points and 9 rebounds for Rabun County.

It was the seventh straight win for the Lady Wildcats (9-1) who will play Franklin (N.C.) on Saturday.

 

LANIER CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 46
JOHNSON 32

Faith Wasden poured in 19 points to lead the Lady Lightning to a win over Johnson Friday in a non-bracket game of the Lanierland tournament at West Hall.

LCA trailed by three early in the first quarter but outscored the Lady Knights 25-12 in the second and third quarters to lead by as many as 21 points.

Loganne Wilson chipped in with 6 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals for LCA.

Jazmyn Gooch led Johnson with 17 points.

 

DAWSON COUNTY 70
BERKMAR 20

Dawson County demolished Class 6A Berkmar Friday night in the semifinals of the McDonald's Shootout at Hart County.

The Lady Tigers jumped out to an 18-2 lead in the first quarter and a 38-13 advantage at halftime. Meanwhile, the second half was much of the same. Dawson held Berkmar to 7 points.

Kaylee Sticker tossed in 14 points to lead the Lady Tigers. Maddie Anglin scored 11, Marlie Townley, Anna Lowe, and Mariah Benson had 9 each, Ella Siuta scored 6, Olivia Walls and Bella Henson had 4 each, and Sophia D'Oliveira and Rachel Swafford scored 2 points each.

Dawson County (10-4, 3-1) will play Hart County in the championship game. Game time is 6 p.m.

 

LUMPKIN COUNTY 56
TOWNS COUNTY 17

MacKenzie Pulley and MaKenzie Caldwell scored 15 points each to lead Lumpkin County past Towns County Friday in semifinals of the Battle of the States tournament. 

The Lady Indians sailed to a 21-3 lead after 8 minutes of play and, by halftime, led 36-11. 

In the second half, Towns gave Lumpkin no challenge. The Lady Indians held Towns to 6 points in the final half, zero points in the fourth quarter. 

Isabel Davenport scored 9 points, Ashlynn Wistoski had 8, Clara White hit for 7, and Madisyn Echols chipped in 2. 

Lumpkin (12-3, 2-3) will play Murphy, NC in the championship game Saturday. Game time is 7 p.m.

 

BANKS COUNTY 60
HABERSHAM CENTRAL 40

Heather Vaughn scored 22 points and Jaycee Bowen had 16 to lift Banks County over Habersham Central Friday in the semifinals of the Banks County Christmas Tournament.

Amber Williams chipped in 13 points in the win.

Taylor Wade and Nikerriah Brown scored 11 points each for the Lady Raiders.

Banks County will play Franklin County in the championship today. Game time is 4 p.m.

Habersham will play Powdersville for third place. Tip is at 1 p.m. today.
