CANTON – A monster third quarter blew the game open for the Dawson County Tigers Saturday afternoon in the War Lodge Invitational at Sequoyah High School.
A stifling defense and pinpoint shooting accuracy helped the Tigers blow out Class 7A’s North Cobb, 70-50.
Jasper Gibson paced the Tigers with 22 points, 14 in the third quarter. Gibson also nailed six 3-pointers.
The Tigers were in control leading 39-27 at the half, but the third quarter output blew the game wide open. Dawson outscored North Cobb 27-4 in the third period.
Luke Chism and Eli Burruss poured 16 points each, and Campbell Reed chipped in 8.
Dawson (10-2, 3-1) will play Atlantic, Fla. in the Deep South Classic at Brookwood High Dec. 27. Game time is 3 p.m.

Carl Cleveland’s triple-double performance led Banks County past Commerce Saturday on the road.
Cleveland scored 35 points, pulled 10 boards and dished out 13 assists in the win. He also recorded 3 blocks.
Commerce outpaced the Leopards 22-16 in the first quarter. After that, Cleveland, Pierce Martin, and Dakota Orr took over. The Leopards outscored Commerce 68-41 in the final 24 minutes.
Martin tossed in 21 points and Dakota Orr hit for 18 points and four blocks.
Clay Gosnell scored 6 points, Emmett Mabry and Mason Marlow chipped in 4 points.
Banks County (7-5, 3-0) will host Habersham Central Dec. 28 in the Leopard Christmas tournament.

Cherokee Bluff (8-5, 2-2) will play Gainesville in the first round of the Lanierland tournament at Chestatee High School on Dec. 27. Game time is 8 p.m.
